General Information
Weenen was established in 1838 on the banks of the Bushman's River and named (‘the place of weeping’) in memory of the massacre of Voortrekkers by the Zulus at Bloukrans and Moordspruit. Today Weenen is a mesmerizing mix of history and eco/cultural-tourism...plus a countless opportunities for daredevil thrill - seekers in this aptly-named Adventure Valley.
Weenen offers tourists white water rafting on the Tugela river, horse safaris through the Tugela Biosphere, canal trips, game viewing, 4x4 safaris, mountain biking, abseiling and rhino tracking by foot.
The distant blue hills and undulating thornveld valleys of KwaZulu-Natal make a superb backdrop for the scenic Weenen Game Reserve.
